The connection between kids and animals is a beautiful thing. Pets are lovely creatures and an integral part of your family which brings the family closer. Household pets have a major influence on children, as kids and their pets share a special bond. They have a positive impact on children’s social skills and emotional well-being. If you are looking for a pet companion for your kids; here are few suggestions on pets, you should bring home.

Some most helpful pet advice for families with kids -

Dog: There’s a reason we call them a man’s best friend. Especially kids can learn so many things from a dog’s personality, behavior, resiliency, and most importantly, the willingness to provide love, loyalty, and companionship. However, some breeds are best for families with kids due to their durability, energy levels, and maintenance like a pug, bulldog, beagle, golden retriever, or Labrador retriever.

Cat: If dogs are called man’s best friend then cats are a woman’s favorite. Cats can be a healthy and joyous addition to your family and can help your children in many ways. Teaching kids to care for a kitten can make them more supportive and willing to share. They clean up after themselves, require very little training, and super cuddly. Children who grow up with cats are also less likely to develop allergies.

Fish: If your child is bothering you for a pet but you don’t want the responsibility of caring for a puppy or a kitten, perhaps a fish is a good option. Having a fish is surely simple as they’re fairly low-maintenance pets. A goldfish can be the first choice however you can also add angelfish, fancy puppy, platy, and clownfish into your tank. Fish are great starter pets for kids, as they love watching them, and you can teach them about responsibility with feeding and cleaning tanks.

Turtle: “Turtles can be your friends for life” as they live a lot longer than other pets. Turtles are flexible and co-exist well with other turtles. They are great family pets because most of them are relatively small; they are quiet and easy to care for if provided with the correct habitat and diet.

Bird: Children are often fascinated with birds as they are colorful and beautiful to watch. Few birds can interact and communicate where as some are soothing to hear as they provide music with their soft chirps and chatter. Finches, canaries, budgies, Pionus parrot, diamond dove, and cockatiel are some best pet options for kids and are easy to care for.

Rabbit: Rabbits are ground-loving animals that prefer a quiet, calm environment. Most bunnies truly enjoy human companionship and with just a little time, love, and proper care, bunnies can make amazing interactive pets. Rabbits are physically delicate animals which means they can be hurt by young children picking them up whereas it can be fine for older children, but they must be taught how to care for and handle them properly.

Guinea Pig: Guinea pigs are great pets for children, especially for elementary-school-age kids. Not as fragile as rabbits and even better than hamsters and gerbils, guinea pigs are bigger, fluffier, and more playful. Guinea pigs require very little maintenance. They need freshwater, timothy hay, dry pellets, and veggies. Their cage needs to be cleaned once every 1–2 weeks which is very easy to clean.

Pets are always suggestible to be handled with the help of a pet professional. A pet care professional understands the nature and behavior of the animal. They can guide you on how to handle them right.
